Dairy industry using 'science' as marketing tool

14 May 2017

More desperation from the dairy industry.

The dairy industry has recently funded a widely-reported study into the link between dairy consumption and heart disease.

Before you read it, just check out the "Conflict of interest" section of the study, which says the authors have links to: the Global Dairy Platform, Dairy Research Institute, Dairy Australia, Wiebe Visser International Dairy Nutrition Prize, Dutch Dairy Association, Danish Dairy Research Foundation, GEIE European Milk Forum, Dutch Beer Knowledge Institute, Lucozade Ribena Suntory Ltd, McCain Foods Limited, McDonalds, Nestle, The Dairy Council and AHDB Dairy. Biased?

Regardless of the results of the study, the fact that the industry went to the trouble of funding it just shows that it is desperately trying anything to retain their market now that people are waking up to the horrific suffering of cows and calves in the industry and are moving towards plant milks.

As for the study results? The best the authors can say is "a diet that is high in dairy foods is not necessarily damaging to health". In other words, eating products made from cow's milk may not make you sick.

There is a better alternative - leave suffering off your plate and get into some vegan dairy products instead. See the comprehensive Cruelty Free List of Dairy Alternatives by Melbourne Cow Save.

Vegan Australia is an animal rights organisation that campaigns nationally for veganism.
