Australia to host world vegan festival

16 Oct 2015

Australia is set to welcome vegan delegates from around the world for the 43rd IVU World Vegfest! This is the first event of its kind to be hosted in Australia and represents the momentum of the local vegan movement.

The International Vegetarian Union (IVU) was launched in 1908 and is a global network of independent organisations. The IVU has been holding international events for over 100 years, with events being 100% vegan since 1996. Now it’s Australia’s turn to showcase our vibrant vegan community to global leaders! The World Vegfest is being brought to Australia by V Stars, who have developed a very exciting program for the event.

The 43rd World Vegfest will be held in Sydney and Melbourne from 23 October to 1 November 2015. There is a sensational schedule of events planned with the centrepieces being two of Australia’s leading vegan festivals, the Cruelty Free Festival in Sydney on 25 October and World Vegan Day in Melbourne on 1 November. Festival organisers have also lined up some special side activities and events including a gala welcome dinner, Sydney’s first 100% vegan sight-seeing bus tour, two forums exploring the hot topics of vegan health and vegan enterprises, and a delicious farewell dinner. Local, interstate, and international visitors are invited to join the World Vegfest celebrations, which will be a great opportunity to share experiences and learn more about the global vegan movement.

In a Sydney first, Veg Travel Guide will be hosting a 100% vegan sight-seeing bus tour. The morning part of the tour will take in the iconic landmarks and history of Sydney, with the afternoon and evening focusing on animals and vegan food! The tour includes all transport and activities and lots of delicious vegan food including lunch, dinner and snacks. Vegan Australia readers are being offered a special $5 discount off the standard ticket price (use the promo code ‘veganaustralia’).

The health and enterprise forums hosted by V Stars are not to be missed with a superstar line-up of speakers for both. During the health forum hear from a leading Indonesian nutritionist and a Guinness World Record holder about how the vegan movement is transforming the world. There is a global shift in consciousness about how we live and consume, and during the enterprise forum leading Sydney-based entrepreneurs will discuss how vegan enterprises are at the forefront of this movement.
